1-Yr Labor + 12-Yr Mitsubishi Parts | Biozura W. Hartford

Biozura Heating and Air Warranty Coverage

HVAC warranty coverage is a stacked structure: the contractor’s labor warranty covers workmanship, and the manufacturer’s parts warranty covers component defects. Most homeowners learn the difference at the worst possible time — when a compressor fails six years after install and the contractor charges $2,400 of labor to swap a part that’s technically still under manufacturer warranty. Biozura’s labor warranty is generous by Hartford-market standards. The manufacturer warranties on the brands we install are registered on your behalf within thirty days of completion, with the certificate filed in the Customer Completion Package. This page documents what is covered, what is not, how to file a claim, and where the boundaries between contractor and manufacturer responsibility actually sit.

Biozura Labor Warranty

New Installation: 1-Year Labor Warranty

All new HVAC installations carry a one-year labor warranty from the date of substantial completion. Substantial completion means the system has been commissioned, the customer walkthrough completed, and the Customer Completion Package handed over. Coverage:

  • Workmanship defects in the installation itself: refrigerant line connection failures (Schrader valves, flare connections, brazed joints), ductwork connection failures at sheet metal seams, electrical connection issues at the disconnect and control board, thermostat wiring errors.
  • Static pressure remaining within specification after the system has settled (target under 0.5″ WC for standard PSC blowers, under 0.8″ WC for ECM variable-speed). If static pressure drifts out of spec because of ductwork issues created during install, we correct without charge.
  • Refrigerant charge: if low refrigerant is documented inside the one-year window and the cause is traced to install workmanship (improper brazing, flare connection leak, line set perforation during install), we recover, repair, evacuate, recharge, and verify without charge to the customer.
  • Combustion analysis drift: if combustion numbers drift outside manufacturer spec inside the one-year window due to install-related issues (improper gas pressure setting, ventilation issue, manifold pressure misadjustment), we re-commission without charge.

Repair Work: 90-Day Repair Warranty

Repair work carries a 90-day warranty on the specific component repaired or replaced. If we replace a fan motor in March and the same motor fails in May, the replacement and labor are covered. If a different component fails — the capacitor, the contactor, the control board — that is a separate failure not covered by the repair warranty unless it was caused by the original repair work. The 90 days run from the date of repair completion.

What the Labor Warranty Does Not Cover

  • Equipment defects covered by manufacturer warranty (see Section 2). The manufacturer covers the part; we cover the labor only inside our 1-year window or under a separately purchased extended labor agreement.
  • Damage from improper customer use (forcing closed dampers, blocking returns with furniture, running the system without filters in place for extended periods).
  • Damage from power surges. We recommend dedicated surge protection (Carrier 7TXP whole-house surge protector, Eaton CHSPT2ULTRA, or similar) on every install. Surge damage to control boards is excluded from labor warranty.
  • Damage from frozen condensate lines due to inadequate customer-side insulation, particularly on PVC condensate runs through unconditioned crawl spaces or attics during Connecticut River valley deep-cold events.
  • Damage from foreign object ingestion by the condenser fan (typically yard debris) or by the air handler (typically construction dust if the home is undergoing other work).
  • Failure caused by absence of recommended annual maintenance. The minimum required maintenance to preserve the labor warranty is one tune-up per year (heating tune-up between September and November; cooling tune-up between March and May). Tune-ups can be performed by Biozura under our maintenance plan or by any other Connecticut-licensed contractor; the customer must retain documentation.

Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act Compliance

The federal Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. § 2301 through § 2312) governs written consumer-product warranties. Under the Act, written warranties on consumer products costing more than $15 must be designated “Full Warranty” or “Limited Warranty.” Biozura’s labor warranty and the manufacturer warranties on installed equipment are all “Limited Warranties” as defined under 15 U.S.C. § 2303(a)(2). The Limited Warranty designation does not waive the customer’s implied warranties under Article 2 of the Connecticut Uniform Commercial Code (Connecticut General Statutes § 42a-2-314 implied warranty of merchantability and § 42a-2-315 implied warranty of fitness for a particular purpose).

How to File a Warranty Claim

Labor Warranty Claims (Biozura)

Call the office at (860) 955-4428 or email info@biozuraheatingairconditioning.xyz. State the equipment, install date, and the failure observed. We pull the original Service Agreement and Customer Completion Package from our records (we retain these for 10 years per Connecticut DCP contractor requirements) and dispatch a technician at no charge for covered labor warranty failures. Diagnostic visits for issues that turn out not to be labor warranty-covered (e.g. the failure is on the manufacturer-warranty side and we file the manufacturer claim) incur no diagnostic fee.

Manufacturer Warranty Claims

For manufacturer warranty issues, we coordinate the claim with the manufacturer on the customer’s behalf. The customer does not need to contact the manufacturer directly. Process:

  1. Customer reports the issue to Biozura.
  2. Technician diagnoses the failure and identifies the failed component.
  3. Biozura submits warranty claim to manufacturer with serial number, installation date, registration confirmation, and failure description. Most manufacturers approve claims within 48–72 hours.
  4. Replacement part ships from manufacturer or local distributor (Crescent Parts in East Hartford, Robertson Heating Supply in Newington, F.W. Webb in Manchester). Typical ship time: 2–7 days.
  5. Biozura installs the warranty replacement part. Labor is charged at our standard hourly rate unless the customer holds an active maintenance plan that includes warranty labor coverage.

The two-document audit trail (manufacturer warranty registration + Customer Completion Package) is what makes manufacturer claims smooth. Without registration, claims may default to the unregistered (5-year) base warranty rather than the registered (10-12 year) full warranty. This is why we register within 30 days of completion as standard practice.

Common Exclusions Explained

“Acts of God” and Severe Weather

Manufacturer warranties exclude damage from lightning, flooding, hail, and ice events. The Connecticut River valley sees lightning strikes during August and September thunderstorms, ice storms during February cold snaps, and occasional flooding along the Park River corridor in Hartford. Surge protection is the primary defense; flood elevation of mechanical equipment is the secondary defense (Connecticut DEEP recommends mechanical equipment elevated 12 inches above any historical flood level for properties in FEMA flood zones).

Improper Application

Manufacturers will void warranties on equipment installed outside its design envelope. A heat pump rated for outdoor operation cannot be installed indoors (mechanical room) without manufacturer documentation. A furnace rated for natural gas cannot be converted to LP without the manufacturer’s conversion kit and updated nameplate.

Refrigerant Loss

Refrigerant is not a serviceable item under warranty. If a system loses refrigerant due to a manufacturer defect (a defective Schrader valve, a cracked indoor coil) the manufacturer typically covers replacement refrigerant cost as part of the defect claim. If the loss is due to install workmanship, Biozura covers it under labor warranty. If the loss is due to puncture by a third party (lawn equipment, construction work) it is neither manufacturer nor labor warranty — that is a separate repair.

Non-OEM Parts

Most manufacturer warranties require OEM (original equipment manufacturer) replacement parts for ongoing coverage. Using a generic capacitor or aftermarket control board can void the manufacturer warranty on related components. Biozura uses OEM parts on every warranty-related repair as standard practice.

Extended Warranty Options

Customers can purchase extended labor coverage beyond the standard Biozura 1-year. Two common options:

  • Biozura Comfort Care Plus: Extends Biozura labor warranty to 5 years on new installs. Includes annual tune-up and 15% discount on repair work outside warranty scope. Cost: $89 per year over the manufacturer warranty period, paid up front at install.
  • Third-party extended warranty: Federal Warranty Service Corporation, JB Warranties, and Allmerica Financial offer multi-year labor coverage on HVAC equipment. We do not sell third-party warranties but will register equipment for customers who purchase them separately.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the Biozura labor warranty on a new installation?
One year on labor from substantial completion (commissioning, walkthrough, and Customer Completion Package handover). Covers defects in workmanship including refrigerant line connections, ductwork seams, electrical connections, thermostat wiring, static pressure within specification, refrigerant charge integrity, and combustion analysis within manufacturer spec. Repair work carries a separate 90-day warranty on the specific component repaired.
What manufacturer warranty comes with the equipment?
Depends on the brand. Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Rheem, Bryant typically carry 10 years parts with online registration within 90 days of install (we file within 30 days as standard). Heat exchangers run 20 years to lifetime on premium models. Mitsubishi Electric and Daikin systems installed by their respective certified contractor networks (we hold Mitsubishi Diamond and Daikin Comfort Pro) carry 12 years parts. Cast iron boiler sections from Burnham, Weil-McLain, Crown, and Peerless typically run 20–25 years on sections (one of the longest warranties in the trade). Detailed manufacturer terms are listed in Section 2 above.
Do I have to register the warranty myself?
No. Biozura registers all manufacturer warranties on your behalf within 30 days of installation completion. Registration is what activates the full warranty period (typically 10-12 years for major brands). Without registration, most manufacturers default to a shorter “base” warranty of 5 years. The registration confirmation is included in the Customer Completion Package handed over at project completion, with a copy emailed for digital archiving.
What voids the warranty?
Several specific things. (1) Skipping required annual maintenance — the manufacturer warranty and Biozura labor warranty both require one tune-up per year, documented. (2) Using non-OEM replacement parts on warranty repairs. (3) Power surge damage when no surge protection is installed (we recommend Carrier 7TXP, Eaton CHSPT2ULTRA, or similar on every install). (4) Damage from frozen condensate lines through unconditioned spaces without proper insulation. (5) Modifications to the system by an unlicensed contractor. (6) Operating the system outside its design envelope (e.g. running AC below outdoor temperatures it’s rated for).
How do I file a warranty claim?
Call (860) 955-4428 or email info@biozuraheatingairconditioning.xyz. State the equipment, install date, and the observed failure. We pull your records (we retain Service Agreements and Customer Completion Packages for 10 years per Connecticut DCP requirements) and dispatch a technician. For Biozura labor warranty issues, there’s no diagnostic fee. For manufacturer warranty issues, we coordinate the claim with the manufacturer on your behalf — you do not need to contact Carrier, Trane, Mitsubishi, or any other manufacturer directly. Typical end-to-end resolution: 5–10 business days for parts ship and install.
